Daily life
Lisbon is a capital / metropolis on the coast; Malaga is a large city on the coast. Lisbon is the best-connected and most international city in Portugal, with sunshine, a big nomad scene and direct flights to the US. It is also the most expensive Portuguese city and the one with the tightest housing, so budget for rent first. Malaga has turned from a beach gateway into a proper city with museums, tech companies and one of the mildest winters in Europe. Rents have jumped, the airport is a major hub for the UK, and the Costa del Sol expat belt starts at its edge.
Living in Lisbon: the upsides and downsides

- Downside: Hilly streets and cobbles make parts of the city tiring on foot
Living in Malaga: the upsides and downsides
- Nearly 3,000 sunshine hours and very mild winters
- City beaches and a walkable center
- Large expat and nomad community; airport links across the UK
- Downside: Rents have risen quickly with demand from foreigners
