Daily life
Malaga is a large city on the coast; Seville is a large city. Malaga has turned from a beach gateway into a proper city with museums, tech companies and one of the mildest winters in Europe. Rents have jumped, the airport is a major hub for the UK, and the Costa del Sol expat belt starts at its edge. Seville is Spain's most atmospheric southern city: monumental, affordable, and made for long evenings outdoors. It is also very hot in summer and has fewer English speakers and no direct North American flights.
Living in Malaga: the upsides and downsides
- Nearly 3,000 sunshine hours and very mild winters
- City beaches and a walkable center
- Large expat and nomad community; airport links across the UK
- Downside: Rents have risen quickly with demand from foreigners
- Downside: Hot, humid summers
Living in Seville: the upsides and downsides
- Lower rents than Madrid, Barcelona or Malaga in our estimates
- Superb monuments, tapas and festivals
- Compact, bikeable center
- Downside: Extreme summer heat: average July highs of 36.3 C
- Downside: English is less common than in other big Spanish cities
