Daily life
Barcelona is a capital / metropolis on the coast; Malaga is a large city on the coast. Barcelona combines a city beach, mountains within reach, great public transport and a huge international scene. It is also one of Spain's priciest cities, noisy and crowded with visitors, and Catalan is the co-official language. Malaga has turned from a beach gateway into a proper city with museums, tech companies and one of the mildest winters in Europe. Rents have jumped, the airport is a major hub for the UK, and the Costa del Sol expat belt starts at its edge.

Living in Malaga: the upsides and downsides
- Nearly 3,000 sunshine hours and very mild winters
- City beaches and a walkable center
- Large expat and nomad community; airport links across the UK
- Downside: Rents have risen quickly with demand from foreigners
- Downside: Hot, humid summers
