Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa: Requirements and How to Apply
The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is a temporary residence permit for non-EU and non-EEA citizens who work remotely for an employer registered abroad or for clients outside Cyprus. The official income test is stable net income of at least €3,500 a month after taxes and contributions. The first permit lasts one year, and renewals can extend your stay to three years in total.
The scheme has a ceiling of 500 permits, and the Migration Department says it is accepting applications again. Fees are low (€70 for the permit) and examination takes five to seven weeks. Details are on the Migration Department page. Check the official page before you apply.

Who qualifies
You must be a non-EU, non-EEA national who can work location-independently using telecommunications. You either work for a company registered abroad, or you are self-employed offering services remotely to clients abroad. You must state your employment type in the application and prove your net monthly income.
Income requirement
The requirement is stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least €3,500 after deduction of contributions and taxes. It is the same headline figure as the Greece digital nomad visa, but the Cyprus page states it as a firm net number. Some secondary sites mention extra amounts for a spouse and children, but the official page does not, so ask the Migration Department how it assesses families.
Documents you'll need
All documents must be officially translated and duly certified. Expect to provide your passport, proof of employment or self-employment, income evidence, proof of address, and health insurance. We read the scheme description but not the document checklist, so confirm the exact list on the Migration Department site.
Step-by-step application
- Enter Cyprus. A tourist visa may be needed if your nationality requires one.
- Within three months of arrival, submit your application at the central offices of the Migration Department in Nicosia. If you are already legally in Cyprus on another status, you can apply to switch.
- Provide biometrics (photo, fingerprints and signature).
- Wait for the decision. The official examination time is five to seven weeks.
- Collect your permit and apply to renew at least one month before it expires.
Costs and timeline
Issuance or renewal of the permit costs €70, and first registration in the Aliens' Registry costs another €70. Budget for translations, legal help and insurance. Our estimate for living in Limassol is about €2,450 a month for a single person and €3,600 for a couple; Paphos is cheaper at about €2,050 for a single person. See Limassol and Paphos.
Taxes once you're resident
The official page says that if you spend more than 183 days in Cyprus in the same tax year and are not a tax resident elsewhere, you are a Cyprus tax resident. After the 2026 reform the first €22,000 of income is tax-free, with rates rising to 35% above €72,000. Secondary sources say new residents who are not domiciled get relief from the defence levy on dividends, interest and rent for up to 17 years. Americans still file US returns. Speak to a Cyprus tax professional.
Family members
Family members can live in Cyprus for the same period as the nomad, without the right to work or carry out economic activity. The page defines family as a spouse or civil partner and underage children. They need their own permits, using the same application procedure.

Notes: Read today on the Migration Department page (posted 31 December 2025, which says the scheme is again accepting applications with a 500-permit ceiling) and the January 2022 scheme PDF. The page lists 'family members' as spouse or civil partner and under-age children. Secondary sources mention a 20% uplift for a spouse and 15% per child: this is not on the official page, so we leave it out of the main figure. Health insurance is a requirement in practice but the document checklist was not read, so it is recorded as true on general understanding. Cyprus is not in Schengen, so what the permit allows for travel to Schengen states was not verified.
