How the “Where should I live in Europe?” quiz works

Most “best places to live” rankings give everyone the same answer. This quiz scores all 40 cities we cover against your answers, using the same data you see on every city page: our monthly budget estimates, climate normals and editorial scores for English-friendliness, safety, family life, culture, nature and the remote-work scene.

Your passport and income source decide which residence routes we look for — digital nomad visas for remote workers, passive-income and retirement visas for retirees, investor routes, work permits or business visas. If a country has no matching route, the city drops down the list and we tell you why. EU citizens skip this step.

Your budget is compared with our estimate for your household in each city (single, couple or family of four, rent included). Cities that would stretch you get a clear warning rather than silently disappearing.

Climate, pace and language carry extra weight because they make or break daily life: a Mediterranean winter at 16°C feels nothing like a Nordic one, and getting by in English is much easier in Dublin, Valletta or Amsterdam than in Seville.

Your top three priorities then tilt the ranking toward what matters most to you. You’ll get your best-matched cities with the reasons, the visa route to look at, and links to compare them side by side. Nothing is stored except anonymous answers, and no email is needed. Read the full methodology.
